An interesting aspect of it is, you already had this element of change inside yourself before you met him. It just needed to be ignited. Meeting Steve represents this key you materialised to give yourself permission to unleash your potential. I've had the same experience this year with Keith Ferrazzi in France. Great meetings and friendships happen for a reason.
So Christine, when do we meet? (the "being bold" part. If you say no I might FedEx you!)
Thanks for sharing.

Christine -

Thanks so much for your terrific story and advice about how to reach VIPs. Reading your post inspired me to include a special "VIP" chapter in a book I'm co-authoring for job seekers. Our book, "100 Conversations for Career Success," will be on shelves in September 2012. Our goal is to help job seekers overcome a huge obstacle: knowing what to say when in job-hunting mode!

Would you allow us to quote these tips in our book? We'd be delighted to include additional "what to say" suggestions if you have other tidbits or ideas you are willing to share. Thanks so much for your consideration!

I look forward to hearing from you!

I wonder about a different type of meeting whose purpose is collaboration, for example a brainstorming meeting. These, when properly facilitated, focus on harnessing the power of teams to generate new ideas. This implies a promise to do something with the new ideas, but that's not the primary content of the meeting.

This sounds a bit like the Tom Sawyer method of painting a fence.

I dont think it's so easy to get people to move from mockery to helping you fix your problems.

Maybe if they are trapped at work with a boss who is watching them they will be more accomodating than they would outside of the office where they would be more inclined to mock you then tell you to screw off when you asked for help or challenged them to come up with a better way.

Great example of building upon a wide base!

It's helpful to remember that both balance and sustainability are dynamic rather than static.

Balance over time is more important than just in the moment - and can allow for considerable (natural) deviation.

Sustainability also tends to be cyclic - with required periods of rest and recovery.

Hello Christine

Brilliant post!

I have never seen power structures broken down into such bite size pieces...It helps put power into a daily actionable process and helps me discern when to use what. Great case study...very creative and intriguing. Is this a seperate training or all inclusive with your training program?

Thanx
